Mission Statement

            • Work with all interested organizations and citizens from all walks of life to move open government to the top of Rhode Island's public policy agenda.
            • Educate Rhode Island's officials, public employees, the media and all citizens toward the knowledge that open government strengthens the state's political and economic well-being.
            • Strive to end government secrecy that may advance special interests, promote personal advantage, hide corruption, conceal official mistakes, avoid embarrassment in high places, intimidate activists or other inhibit public participation in or knowledge about public activities.
            • Educate all Rhode Island citizens in methods of fostering public access to the public records, meetings and process of government.
            • Educate all Rhode Island citizens in methods of fostering prompt, inexpensive and user-friendly access to all public information including information created or stored in electronic form.
            • Work with other tax-exempt national, regional and local organizations to develop strategies, plan projects and raise funds for this effort.
            • Persevere to educate all Rhode Island citizens to seek and honor public access in practice throughout Rhode Island's state and local governments.
